You can open and read ePub files on any platform and experience a seamless reading experience. The fact that this simple change hasn't been made for a reading app with such a complicated, self-defeating night mode makes me crazy. If this weren't the only app that seems like it might be able to synchronize reading positions across iOS, Mac, and Windows, it wouldn't be worth rating much less writing this review, so I'm really hoping the developers simply open up Apple Books and look at the night mode, take a few notes, and publish an update that's not just a bug fix. God forbid you are reading something that requires looking things up in a web browser.I will not be able to use this app until they add a non-insane night mode and support dark mode for the other UI.Especially in a world where OLED screen exist, there is no excuse for not using the simple color black for your background color. This may seem pretty nighttime-friendly if all you consider is "total amount of light emitted by the screen while in this app's reading mode", but if you try to measure eye strain or actual light exposure while reading. In order for this low contrast color scheme to be readable, you have to keep your actual iPhone brightness so high that if you have to switch to another app, you'll be blinded.

First of all, there is no dark mode for the UI outside of reading: the book list and settings are all white.Second, the night theme for the reader mode simply lowers the overall brightness and changes the colors to a low contrast light grey on dark grey.
